About Us

The Performing Arts Association of Singapore is made up of professionals in the domain of local performing arts and is a non-profit organization officially registered and approved by the Singapore Registry of Societies. Since its establishment, the Association has diligently and actively drive the development of Singapore's performing arts and contributed positively to the promotion and upgrading of Singapore's performing arts.

In Singapore, the association provides a platform for mutual learning, artistic exchanges and communications among performing arts talents and enthusiastically promote the development of Singapore traditional arts. Internationally, the association diligently strives to create works of arts with Singapore characteristics, keenly participate in international arts event and activities in order to achieve international recognition of Singapore’s brand of arts works and performances.

新加坡表演艺术协会是由本地表演艺术领域的专业人才所组成,是新加坡协会注册局（Registry of Societies）正式注册并批准成立的非赢利组织。协会自成立以来，积极推动新加坡表演艺术的发展，为新加坡表演艺术的推广与提升做出了贡献。

在新加坡, 协会为表演艺术人才提供一个相互学习与交流的平台，积极推动新加坡传统艺术的发展。

在国际上，协会努力打造具有新加坡特色的艺术作品，积极参与国际间的艺术合作与活动，使新加坡品牌的艺术作品，能够在国际上得到赞赏。

Association Name Meaning

This is the only multiple disciplinary art organization in Singapore that encompasses multiple arts disciplines, including dancing, music and drama. It brings together experts from various arts disciplines with the comment goal of producing art pieces that are unique to and made in Singapore.

新加坡表演艺术协会是新加坡本土唯一一个涵盖多项艺术门类，包括舞蹈，音乐和戏剧等；汇集多种活动形式，包括表演、科研、交流; 致力于打造新加坡艺术品牌的艺术机构。

Objectives

1. Locally, it provides a platform for performing arts professionals to exchange ideas and learn from one another, which will contribute aggressive to the positive development of arts in Singapore.

2. Internationally, it promotes arts creations unique to Singapore, engaging actively in international arts activities, thus establishing affirmation of Singapore-made arts creations in the International scene.

Our Story

Singapore International Dance Festival (SIDF)

The First International Youth Dance Festival 2011yr

May 2011, the first International Youth Dance Festival was jointly organized by the Performing Arts Association of Singapore and the World Dance Federation. It was strongly supported by the Chinese Embassy in Singapore. The dance festival was held in Beijing and activities included visit to the Beijing Dance Academy, observing the lessons learning by students as well as the actual teaching by the instructors of the academy. At the end, performers from both Singapore and China from the following organizations participated together in the 1st International Youth Chinese Dance Competition: Beijing Dance Academy, Beijing Dance Academy Affiliated Middle School, Central Drama and Opera Academy, China Music Institute and Beijing Haidian Foreign Language School, etc. There were more than 300 contestants in the competition and it had widely well received with reports and applauses from the media. It had become a very influential event

2011年5月，首届.国际青少年舞蹈节由新加坡表演艺术协会和世界舞蹈联盟协办。得到中国驻新加坡大使馆的大力支持！舞蹈节在北京展开，活动包括参观北京舞蹈学院、观摩北舞学生上课，以及由北舞导师授课，最后，来自新加坡与中国的参赛选手们：有北京舞蹈学院、北京舞蹈学院附属中学、中央戏剧学院、中国音乐学院、北京海淀外国语学校等学生们，共同参加《首届国际青少年华族舞蹈比赛》。比赛选手300多位，这项活动受到广泛的欢迎。媒体的报道和赞扬，非常具有影响力。

2ND International Youth Dance Festival 2012yr

May and June 2012, The 2nd International Youth Dance Festival was separately held Beijing, China and Taipeh of Taiwan with Dances Exchanges and Competitions. The event was very well supported by the following institutions: Culture Department of the Chinese Embassy in Singapore; Singapore Arts Council, Singapore Lee Foundation; Singapore Primary and Secondary Schools; Beijing Dance Academy; Beijing Haiyun Art School; Taipei University of the Arts, Taiwan; Wushu and Dance arts Studio of Malaysia.

2012年5月与6月，第二届国际青少年舞蹈节活动之二：分别在台湾台北、中国北京举行舞蹈交流与比赛。活动得到以下机构的鼎立支持：中国驻新加坡大使馆文化处；新加坡艺术理事会，新加坡李氏基金；新加坡各中小学校；北京舞蹈学院；北京海韵艺术学校；台湾台北艺术大学；马来西亚武舞艺术坊。

January 2012, one of the events of the 2nd International Youth Dance Festival was “The First International Art Symposium” which was held in Singapore. The theme of the symposium was: The Inheritance and Development of Traditional Art. We had invited Zhang Xiaochun, Dean of the Dance Academy of Guangxi Academy of Fine Arts in China, who lead 28 teachers and students from the Dance Academy to participate in this symposium and performances.

2012年1月，第二届国际青少年舞蹈节活动之一：在新加坡主办“首届国际艺术研讨会”。研讨会主题是：传统艺术的继承与发展。我们邀请到了中国广西艺术学院舞蹈学院张小春院长，带领舞蹈学院28名老师与学生，参与表演与研讨。

3RD International Youth Dance Festival 2013yr

With the presence of Mr Lian Eng Hwa (MP of Holland-Bukit Timah GRC) and Counselor Mr Xiao Jiang Hua (Cultural Counselor of Chinese Embassy, Singapore) who had turned up for the event despite their busy schedules, the 3rd International Youth Dance Festival 2013 was successfully held on 19th and 20th January 2013, at Kreta Ayer People’s Theatre in Singapore. We are pleased to receive compliments from our guest-of-honor for putting up a spectacular performance.

The event has attracted some 320 youth dancers from Singapore, China and Malaysia, and over 1000 audiences viewed the performance. We are honored to invite Mr Chong Keng Jing (Former dance specialty official of the Singapore Ministry of Education), Ms Yang Mei Jung (Lecturer of Taipei National University of the Arts Dance Academy), Ms Zhang Lei (Lecturer of Beijing Dance Academy High School) and Mr Lee Jin Song (Founder of Lee Wushu Arts Theatre, Malaysia) to participant in the event and attend the seminar to shared their dance experience with the youth dancers.

January 2013, the 3rd International Youth Dance Festival Special Topic Symposium was held in the National Library. The main topic was: “How can we break through our own limitations and adapt to the changes of the times to find new development points in Arts of Dance?”

Seminar experts include: Dr. Cai Yupeng, Chairman of the Symposium; Mr. Zhuang GengJing, former Dance Inspector of the Ministry of Education of Singapore; Yang Meirong, Lecturer of the National Taipei University of the Arts, Dance School; Associate Professor Zhang Lei, Beijing Dance Academy, China; Founder of the Malaysian Wushu and Dance Art Studio, Mr. Li JinSong.

2013年1月，第三届国际青少年舞蹈节专题讲座，在国家图书馆举行，主题是：舞蹈艺术，如何能突破自身的局限，顺应时代的变化，找到新的发展点？

研讨会专家有：研讨会主席蔡曙鹏博士；新加坡教育部前舞蹈视学官庄耿精先生；台湾国立台北艺术大学舞蹈学院杨美蓉讲师；中国北京舞蹈学院张蕾副教授；马亚西亚武舞艺术坊创办人李劲松先生。

The 4TH International Youth Dance Festival 2014yr

4th International Youth Dance Festival was successfully held on 07 Sep 2014, at Bukit Merah Public Library ,<< Aspect to Aspect of Taiwan Dance>> ---- Dance Workshop. On 08 Sep 2014 ,we held 4th International Youth Dance Festival---- Dance Competition at Woodlands Regional Library. Total of 32 participating programs, including 15 solo dances programs and 17 group dances programs. Attending audience very enthusiastic even the seat not be enough.

2014年9月7日，第四届国际青少年舞蹈节--- 舞蹈研讨会工作坊，在新加坡国家图书馆，分馆BUKIT MERAH PUBLIC LIBRARY 为舞蹈节拉开序幕。

9月8日，舞蹈比赛在WOODLANDS REGIONAL LIBRARY 的剧场展开，共32个参赛节目，包括15个单/双/三参赛节目，以及17个团体参赛节目。

由于前来观看比赛的观众太多，以至于现场出现座位不足够的情况。

5TH International Youth Dance Festival 2015yr

5th International Youth Dance Festival was successfully held on 5th and 6th Sep 2015, this International Dance Seminar and dance workshop (Traditional Dance Inheritance and Development) at the National Library Board hold. The main objective of this dance seminar is to invite dance veteran of our dance community to understand the culture, history and our heritage through dance. We had invited Professor Xiang Kaiming from Yanbian University延边大学 (From China); Ms Lu En Mei, Chairperson (From Hongkong ) Dance Ferderation;

Ms Luo Ying Fang, Troupe Leader from Fang Shiang Dance Theatre (From Taiwan); Mr Peter Gn, Senior Specialist (Dance) / Dance Educator / Choreographer from Ministry of Education of Singapore (From Singapore) ; Ms Chen Xiu Lan, Chairperson from Chinese Dance Artistes’ Association as our guest speakers. These experts had enthusiastically shared their valuable experiences to the topic for this seminar - “Inheritance and development of traditional dance”《传统舞蹈的继承和发展》.

第五届国际青年舞蹈节于2015年9月5日至6日在新加坡国家图书馆成功举行，此次舞蹈研讨会和舞蹈工作坊的主题是《传统舞蹈的继承与发展》。通过这个研讨会和舞蹈工作坊，让本地舞蹈界的表演者，以及创编者通过了解传统舞蹈文化，历史的发展，学习舞蹈的创新。我们邀请了延边大学著名舞蹈专家向开明教授（来自中国）；舞蹈联合会主席（香港）陆恩美女士；方向舞剧院团团长罗应芳女士（来自台湾）；新加坡教育部高级专家（舞蹈）/舞蹈教育家/编舞Peter Gn先生（来自新加坡）；华族舞蹈协会主席陈秀兰女士（来自新加坡）作为嘉宾演讲。这些专家在本次研讨会热情地分享了他们的宝贵经验。

6TH International Youth Dance Festival 2016yr

21 August, 2016, there were 29 outstanding dance performances in the grand final of the competition. The competition was very intense and the Award Presentation Ceremony together with awesome show programs in the evening had received overwhelming rounds of applauses from the audiences.

2016年8月21日的舞蹈总决赛，有29个入围的优秀舞蹈节目进入总决赛进行角逐。比赛非常的激烈，晚上的颁奖礼的优秀节目展演，让现场的观众掌声不断。

6TH International Youth Dance Festival 2016yr

19 - 23 August, 2016, the 6th Singapore International Youth Dance Festival was held at the National Library of Singapore and the Singapore Golden Theatre. The festival was jointly organized by the Performing Arts Association of Singapore and Singapore Chinese Opera Institute.

20 August 2016: A symposium of dance experts with the theme “ What Dances Can Do for Us ?”was held at the National Library of Singapore. Internationally renowned experts and scholars were invited to discuss and explore the importance of dances and its future development trend

Speakers include:

Professor Ou Jianping (Director, Research Fellow, Institute of Dance, Master of Dance and Ph.D., Director and Facilitator of Dance PH.D. Academy), From Beijing, China;

Chairman Mei Zhuoyan (Arts Development Bureau , Art Category – Executive Chairman of the Dance, Hong Kong's Famous International Dance Artist) ,From Hong Kong,;

Chairman Lai Xiufeng (Master of Dance at the Royal Institute of Fine Arts of Spain, Chairman of the Chinese National Standard Dance Society, Chairman of the Chinese Dance Society, Supervisor of the Chinese Literature Society) , From Taiwan .

Professor Zhang Chongfu (Professor of Dance at Colorado State University, USA, ) and was awarded the 2008 Distinguished Professor Award, the 2009 Best Teacher Award, and the 2011 Distinguished Professor of Who's Who in American. From U.S.A

2016年8月19--23日，第六届新加坡国际青少年舞蹈节在新加坡国家图书馆和新加坡黄金剧场分别举行。此届是由新加坡表演艺术协会主办，新加坡戏曲学院联办。

2016年8月20日在新加坡国家图书馆举行的专家研讨会，邀请了国际著名的专家学者，围绕《舞蹈，能为我们做什么》的主题，讲述探讨舞蹈的重要性以及未来的发展趋势。

演讲嘉宾包括：

中国北京，欧建平教授（中国艺术研究院舞蹈研究所所长、研究员，研究生院舞蹈学系主任、硕士及博士研究生导师）；

香港，梅卓燕主席（艺术发展局艺术组别-舞蹈主席，香港著名国际舞蹈艺术家）；

台湾，赖秀峰理事长（西班牙皇家高等艺术学院舞蹈硕士，中华民国舞蹈学会理事长，中华舞蹈学会理事长，中国文艺学会监事）；

美国，張崇富教授（美國科羅拉多州立大學（Colorado State University）舞蹈系教授，並獲頒該校2008年傑出教授獎，2009年度最佳教師獎以及2011年獲選美國Who’s Who in American 的知名教授）；

新加坡，Ms Yam Boon Fong 学生发展课程高级专科督导(新加坡教育部)。
